Privacy, in plain words
The short version
- You tell your matchmaker about yourself. She uses it to find you one person at a time.
- Everything she knows about you is listed in the app. You can change who it's for, or make her forget it.
- Your photos are shown only to a person you're introduced to.
- No ads, no tracking, no selling your data.
- You can delete your account and everything with it from the You tab, any time.
Who we are
Illyria is run by [OPERATOR NAME], [POSTAL ADDRESS] ("we"). We decide how your data is used and we're responsible for it. Write to privacy@meetillyria.com about anything on this page.
Your matchmaker is an AI. She says so when asked.
What we collect
- Your email address, to sign you in with an emailed code. Nobody you're introduced to ever sees it.
- Your invite code.
- Your basics: first name, date of birth (people see your age, never the date), gender, who you'd like to meet, city, neighbourhood, job title, your answers to profile prompts, your photos, and the age range and distance you prefer.
- What you tell your matchmaker: your messages with her, and the facts she takes from them.
- Your taste: your reactions to practice profiles and your reasons, your yes or no to each introduction, and whether it was the photos or the description that decided it.
- Your chats with people you've been introduced to. Your matchmaker reads them so she can help you privately, and checks messages for signs of scams, harassment or danger. She keeps a short running note on how each chat is going.
- After a date: your answer to "would you see them again?" and anything you add.
- Reports and blocks you make.
- If you join the waitlist on our website: your email address and the city you choose. We use them only to write to you about an invitation, and we remove them if you ask.
- Technical records: our servers log account references, timings and error codes. They never log what you wrote.
We don't collect your precise location, your contacts, or an advertising identifier. The app contains no analytics or advertising software. It asks for your photo library only when you choose profile photos.
Sensitive things
Religion, politics and sexual orientation are optional. Your matchmaker records them only if you bring them up, and you can make her forget them. She never records caste, skin colour or complexion. If you mention them, she declines in one line and nothing is saved.
Three tiers, on every fact
Each fact your matchmaker holds has one of three tiers. You can see every fact and move it between tiers under You → What she knows.
- Public: can be shown to a person you're introduced to.
- Agent-only: matchmakers use it to decide who fits. It is never quoted. For a few everyday subjects (interests, lifestyle, values, what you're looking for, work, where you've lived) she may refer to it in general terms when she introduces you. Everything else stays between matchmakers.
- Private: stays with your own matchmaker. It is never used in anything written to or about another person.
What other people see
- Someone you're introduced to (in your own city, or in another city if you've both switched on Open to other cities) sees your first name, age, job title, neighbourhood, prompt answers and photos, plus a short note from their matchmaker on why you might get along.
- Other members in your city may see your written profile (first name, age, job title, neighbourhood, prompt answers and Public interests) as a practice profile while their matchmaker learns their taste. Practice profiles never include photos.
- Nobody is told who said no. Your decisions, your debrief answers, your matchmaker's private suggestions and her notes are never shown to the other person.
How we use it
- To run your conversations with your matchmaker and build her picture of you.
- To choose introductions. This is done by AI: your matchmaker compares what she knows about you with what other matchmakers know about their people. You always decide whether to say yes.
- To keep people safe: spotting scams and harassment, acting on reports, and showing support resources if something you write suggests you may be in crisis.
- To fix problems and keep the service running.
We don't use your data for advertising. We don't sell it or share it for advertising. We don't use your conversations to train AI models.
People on our team don't read your conversations as a matter of course. A small number of us can access the database when it's needed to handle a report, fix a fault, or meet a legal duty.
Companies that help us run Illyria
They process your data on our instructions and only to provide their service to us.
| Company | What for | What it handles |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in, photo storage | Everything listed above |
| Resend | Emailing your sign-in code | Your email address |
| Anthropic, reached through OpenRouter | The AI model behind your matchmaker | The messages and facts needed to write each reply or weigh an introduction. Not your email address or your photos. |
| TypeSafe | A second AI model that checks chat messages for scams and harassment, and does a first screen of possible introductions | The text of a chat message; the facts about two people being considered, never their Private facts |
| Fly.io | Running the matchmaker service | The same text in transit, and the technical records |
We send AI requests with an instruction to use only providers that don't collect the data. Anthropic and TypeSafe say they don't use what we send to train their models. Apple and Google distribute the app and may collect installation and crash data under their own policies.
We may also disclose data when the law requires it, or to protect someone from serious harm.
Where it's kept
Your account is stored in the eastern United States, whichever city you live in. If you live in India, that means your data is stored and processed outside India. The AI model and the email provider may also process the text needed for a reply, and your email address when a code is sent, in the United States or other countries where those companies operate.
How long we keep it
- While you have an account, we keep what's listed above.
- A fact you ask her to forget is hidden everywhere and no longer used from that moment. It is erased for good when you delete your account.
- A chat that fades (after two quiet weeks) or is closed disappears from the app for both of you. Its record is erased when either of you deletes their account.
- When you delete your account, we erase your profile, photos, facts, your thread with your matchmaker, your taste, your introductions and your chats, along with reports you filed. It takes effect at once. Anyone you were talking to is told only that the chat has closed. Copies in our database provider's backups expire within 30 days.
- Technical records are kept for a short period for troubleshooting, then expire.
Your choices
- See what we hold: You → What she knows lists every fact and where it came from.
- Correct it: edit your basics, move a fact to another tier, or tell your matchmaker she has something wrong.
- Erase it: forget single facts, or use You → Delete account.
- Pause: stop new introductions without closing your chats.
- Get a copy, or ask anything else: write to privacy@meetillyria.com from the email address on your account. We reply within 30 days.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account. Depending on where you live, the law may give you further rights, including the right to complain to a regulator. We won't treat you differently for using any of them.
If you're in India
Our Grievance Officer is [GRIEVANCE OFFICER NAME]. Write to grievance@meetillyria.com with complaints about content, conduct or your data. We acknowledge within 24 hours and resolve within 15 days.
Adults only
Illyria is for people aged 18 and over. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. The database itself enforces who can read what: your facts are readable only by you, and the app can never fetch another member's records directly. Photos sit in a private store and are shown through short-lived links. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we'll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes to this page
If we change how we handle your data in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
