Terms, in plain words

Last updated 10 October 2026 · Applies to the invite-only alpha in Bangalore and New York

The short version

Who these terms are between

You, and [OPERATOR NAME], [POSTAL ADDRESS], which runs Illyria ("we"). By creating an account you agree to these terms and to how we handle your data, set out in the privacy note.

The alpha

Illyria is invite-only and in testing. It's free while the alpha lasts. We may change how it works, pause it, or end it, and we'll give you notice in the app when we reasonably can. Some things described in the app are marked "After the alpha" and aren't available yet.

Who can use it

Your matchmaker is an AI

She's software, not a person, and she says so when asked. She can misunderstand you, get facts wrong, or introduce someone who turns out not to suit you. She isn't a therapist, a doctor, a lawyer or an emergency service, and what she says isn't professional advice.

An introduction is a suggestion. It isn't a recommendation that a person is safe, honest, single, or who they say they are.

Meeting people

We don't verify identity, photos, age beyond your own confirmation, or relationship status, and we don't run background checks in this alpha. Other members' profiles and messages are their own. You're responsible for your decisions about who to talk to and whether, where and how to meet.

Meet in a public place the first few times, arrange your own way there and back, and tell a friend. Never send money to someone you met here. If you're in danger, call 112 in India or 911 in the US.

How to behave

Be truthful about your age, your relationship status, your photos and what you're looking for. Don't:

Reports, and what we may do

You can report or block anyone from a chat or the Safety centre. Messages are checked automatically for signs of scams and harassment. If we believe someone has broken these terms or is a risk to others, we may warn them, pause their introductions, close a chat, or remove their account, with or without notice. We may tell the authorities when we believe someone is in danger or the law requires it.

What you share

What you tell your matchmaker, your profile and your photos stay yours. You give us permission to store and use them to run Illyria for you: to build your matchmaker's picture of you, to choose and write introductions, and to show the parts you've made Public to people you're introduced to, as the privacy note describes. That permission ends when you delete the item or your account, apart from backup copies that expire on their own.

Only share photos and information you have the right to share.

Leaving

You can delete your account at any time under You → Delete account. It takes effect at once and can't be undone. We can also suspend or close an account as described above, or when the alpha ends.

What we don't promise

Illyria is provided as it is. We don't promise that it will always be available, that it will be free of mistakes, or that you'll meet someone. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for the conduct of other members, on Illyria or in person, or for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to 100 US dollars. Nothing here limits liability that the law says can't be limited, or the rights you have as a consumer where you live.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW]. If you're a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the place you live.

Changes

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.
